The ACGC track and field teams began their quest for medals Thursday at the 2019 Iowa High School Co-Ed State Track and Field Meet.

For the second straight year, junior Kate Crawford started off her week with a 2nd place finish in the 3000 meter run, finishing with a time of 10:37.51. It was a deja vu moment as the gold once again went to Mid-Prarie’s Marie Hostetler.

Crawford commented on the race shortly after crossing the finish line. “It definitely was challenging. I think I took off too fast and didn’t really have anything left in the end but Marie (Hostetler) ran a really good time so she obviously deserved it. She’s really good.”

The Chargers grabbed two other top-ten finishes on day one. Senior Noah Nelsen ran his final 3200 meter run, finishing in 8th place with a time of 9:59.16. Classmate Madison McDermott also completed her final shot put of her high school career, placing 9th overall with a flight-one winning throw of 38 feet even.

The four other entries competing on day one included: junior Quynton Younker (shot put-19th), girls 4×800 meter relay (20th), senior Savana Fuller (100 meter dash-22nd), and Dylan Soper (100 meter dash-24th). After one day of scoring, the ACGC girls sit in a tie for 8th place with eight points and the boys sit in a tie for 33rd with one point.
