A Bayard woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly depositing false checks and blank envelopes at Guthrie County State Bank.
According to the criminal complaint, charges were filed against 19-year-old Payton Allyssa Hill after she failed to follow through on a repayment plan offered by the bank. Security camera footage and documents showed Hill entered a different amount than a check she deposited into the bank’s outside ATM. She also deposited an altered check from her grandmother and deposited several blank envelopes. The incidents occurred from March 14th to March 17th and the total amount that was stolen was $1,590.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office was then contacted by the bank to assist in locating Hill. They told Sheriff’s Deputies they were willing to work with her to repay the money instead of filing criminal charges. Hill had a meeting set up with the bank on April 25th, and on May 1st the charges and an arrest warrant were filed. Hill is charged with forgery, a class D felony; four counts of theft in the fourth degree, a serious misdemeanor; and theft in the fifth degree, a simple misdemeanor.
