The Perry and Adel-DeSoto-Minburn track teams had to wait a day longer to attempt to make the 2019 State Track and Field Meet, as the qualifying meets were delayed from Thursday to Friday.
For ADM it was worth the wait, as they automatically qualified 14 events for State at Dallas Center-Grimes High School Friday night, and had six more that were good enough to make it as at-large. Participants had to finish in the top two of their respective events in order to immediately know their fate for State. The members of the ADM girls team who did just that included: freshman Olivia Tollari in 200M dash and long jump; senior Anna Kenny in 100M and 400M hurdles; the 4x200M relay team of Tollari, junior Josi Lonneman, senior Sadie Juergens, and junior Lizzy Lohmann; the 4x400M relay team of Kenny, Lohmann, Juergens, and sophomore Julia Case; and the 4x100M shuttle hurdle team of Kenny, senior Kristen Baier, senior Abigail Calligan, and junior Holland Zwank.
Meanwhile, the ADM boys who qualified automatically for State included: sophomore Nate Mueller in 800M, 1600M, and 3200M runs; sophomore Ethan Juergens in 3200M run; senior Lucas Heitz in 400M hurdles; sophomore Tate Stine-Smith in high jump; and junior Kaden Sutton in discus throw. As for the Perry track teams, they travelled to Carroll High School Friday night and had one automatic State qualifier, junior Kato Dougan in the boys 100M dash. The ADM at-large qualifiers include: sophomore Hannah Welch in girls 1500M run; sophomore Abby Gonzalez in girls 400M hurdles; the girls 800M sprint medley team of Lonneman, Lohmann, Juergens, and sophomore Carley Osgood; Heitz in boys 110M hurdles; junior Tom Boorn in boys discus throw; and the boys 4x110M shuttle hurdle relay team of Heitz, junior Colton Pirtle, senior Nolan Harsh, and freshman Matt Dufoe. Additionally, Perry senior Kaleb Olejniczak qualified in the boys 400M dash.
The State Track and Field Meet will be held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines from May 16-18.
