The Guthrie County area school districts had tremendous success Friday night earning several automatic bids to the State Track Meet.
The qualifying meet was postponed at Panora, like all others were, from Thursday to Friday due to weather conditions. For the girls, Panorama led the way with 14 automatic qualified events. The Panthers had five team events qualify include: 4×100 meter, 4×400 meter and 4×800 meter relays; 4×100 meter shuttle hurdle relay; and the distance medley relay. They also had Kassidy Bremer automatically qualify in the 200 meters and the long jump; Ella Waddle for the 1500 and 3000 meter runs; Olivia Steffen in the 400 meters; Gwen Steffen in the 800 meters; Morgan Johnk for high jump; Bailey Beekman for long jump and Lydia Knapp for discus.
Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center girls’ team also had some automatic qualifiers Friday night. There was one team event with the 4×800 meter relay; Kate Crawford automatically qualified three events with the 800 meter; 1500 meter and 3000 meter runs; and Madison McDermott qualified in shot put.
As for the boys, West Central Valley and AC/GC had automatic qualifiers. The Wildcats led the way with six events. There were two team events including: 4×400 meter and 800 sprint medley relays; Cole Amburg had two automatic events qualify with the 200 and 400 meter dashes and Loudon Foster qualified in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. AC/GC had one team event with distance medley relay; along with Noah Nelson qualifying in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs; Dylan Soper in the 100 meters; Clay Billheimer in the 800 meters and Quynton Younker for shot put.
To automatically qualify, you had to be one of the top two finishers. The rest of the qualifiers are being calculated today, so listen to tomorrow’s sportscast on the Raccoon Valley Radio Network to hear the full list of qualifiers for the state meet. The State Track Meet will be at Drake University May 16th through the 18th.
