The Perry Police Department and Perry School District are investigating individuals believed to be responsible for a bomb threat Thursday, which was deemed non-credible.
Perry Superintendent Clark Wicks tells Raccoon Valley Radio that a threatening message to blow up Perry Middle School was discovered by Principal Shaun Kruger in a stall of the boys bathroom. The police were called in and they investigated the threat and several students that could have written it. They identified two possible suspects, and the threat was not deemed credible. No charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation is ongoing. Wicks says police believe there is no imminent threat, and classes will be held today as normal. However, he adds that there will be an increased police presence at the middle school and high school to provide extra security throughout the day.
Wicks emphasizes that there was never any danger to the students and staff of the middle school, but that the District and Police Department take threats such as this very seriously. If anyone has information about the case, they are encouraged to contact the Perry Police Department at 515-465-4636 or Perry Crime Stoppers at 515-465-5661.
