Don’t forget, this morning a Democratic candidate for President of the United States will be visiting Dallas County.
Former Texas Congressman Beto O’Rourke will be hosted by Dallas County Democratic Chair Bryce Smith at his home, located at 614 Court Street in Adel. The campaign party will begin at 9 a.m. today, and is free and open to the public. O’Rourke will discuss a wide variety of topics at the meet and greet — including his plans to tackle climate change and address the specific needs of rural Americans — and will also answer questions from attendees. This is O’Rourke’s third trip to Iowa since announcing his candidacy, and his first time visiting the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.
He will be the seventh candidate to visit Dallas County since the beginning of 2019, each of whom hope to separate themselves from the crowded pool of Democratic nomination hopefuls. O’Rourke is one of currently 21 candidates vying for the chance to face the incumbent Republican President in the 2020 general assembly, with the first step being the next year’s Iowa Caucuses. Other candidates who have already visited Dallas County include: former Maryland Congressman John Delaney, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, who stopped in Perry; Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and California Businessman Andrew Yang, who attended the Dallas County Democrats annual fundraiser in Adel; and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, who visited Waukee.
