The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.
During open forum, Sheriff Jack Williams said three interviews were conducted last week for the open deputy position. He will recommend hiring Caleb Crowder from Guthrie Center to start June 1st. County resident Carol Perkins also spoke in open forum. He wrote a letter to County Auditor Jane Heun addressed to Drainage Clerk Michelle Fields, asking engineering firm Bolton and Menk to provide an estimate on installing an open ditch in drainage district 14. Bolton and Menk replied that they could provide that by the June 3rd public hearing.
The Board heard a Louis Dreyfus funding request for the new animal shelter. The Louis Dreyfus account is a discretionary fund that the Board can access for projects throughout the county for a limited number of years. Animal Shelter Co-organizer Don Orris said they’ve raised $450,000 of the $1.1 million to build the facility. The Board voted 4-1 to pledge $5,000 when the fundraising goal has been reached. The one “no” vote was from Supervisor Tom Contner. He said he had reservations with how the project was being handled and couldn’t vote for it.
The Board also signed a proclamation that June 2nd is to be Jerry Roberts Day, as he is this year’s Greene County Impact Award winner. They approved the County Recorder’s report of fees for April of $33,763 and designated Billie Hoskins as the board signatory for the grant application for the County Substance Abuse Prevention grant as presented.
Finally, the Board discussed purchasing property that is close to the main Jefferson facility for the secondary roads department with County Engineer Wade Weiss. No formal action was taken by the Board.
