Work is underway for a county road project in Guthrie County.

Monteith Road from Highway 25 to County Road P28, or Wagon Road, is closed for reconstruction. County Engineer Josh Sebern says the western three miles of the road was a different type of pavement and was worn and not salvageable.

He says they removed the pavement, and Norris Asphalt Paving Company of Ottumwa is the primary contractor of the project, “We are going to rework the dirt subgrade and that’s going to be a nice project to make a good pavement platform and then the asphalt will come in behind that. The eastern five miles will be overlaid with asphalt so when we’re done the entire project will be an asphalt road and it’ll be a nice improvement over the conditions that are currently there and it’ll be a good road for the residents.”

Sebern says crews are currently on schedule for a completion date of late June.
