Iowa state parks are celebrating Camping Kickoff this weekend, and Springbrook State Park is looking forward to their peak camping season.

Park Ranger Rod Nelsen says campsites are already booked full for Memorial Day weekend, and the Fourth of July holiday is shaping up to be the same. The next three months are typically the busiest, so Nelsen encourages campers to reserve a spot by going to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources website. Nelsen shares what’s captivating about Springbrook, “Well Springbrook is going to be one of your historical style parks where it was built in the 1930s with a lot of CCC efforts which is Civilian Conservation Corps. So when folks come out they’re going to see more of an older style park, it’s got a lot of beautiful natural features that folks can enjoy.”

Springbrook is also hosting free events for Camping Kickoff this weekend. Training Specialist Anne Riordan is hosting a hiking and campfire event from 7-10 p.m. today and a “Splash for Trash” kayaking cleanup event from 2:30-5 p.m. tomorrow. Call 641-295-6028 for questions.
