Nearly $140,000 was given out to local organizations Tuesday evening, as the Dallas County Foundation (DCF) and Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation (GGCGC) distributed their 2019 grant awards.
The awards ceremony was held at the Van Meter American Legion, and a total of 35 grants were given to non-profit and civic organizations around Dallas County for a variety of purchases and projects. The DCF gave out $95,706 through 32 grants, with some of the larger checks including: $4,000 to the Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce for the Kinnick to Raccoon trail project; $4,000 to Habitat for Humanity for the CAPABLE pilot program; $5,000 to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Benevolent Association for bulletproof vests; $6,000 to Perry Middle School for art room renovations; and $7,500 to Perry’s Academic, Cultural, and Enrichment Services (PACES) program for a “makerspace lab.”
The other three grants awarded were from the GGCGC in the amount of $43,047, and they included: $10,047 to the Adel Fire Association for a utility terrain vehicle; $13,000 to the Food Bank of Iowa for a delivery vehicle; and $20,000 to the Waukee Betterment Foundation for a Miracle Park fishing pier. The grant recipients were announced at the end of March, and the funds were allocated Tuesday. Since 2005, the DCF has awarded over $1.3 million to more than 220 projects in Dallas County. The purpose of the grants is to enhance large and small organizations in the County in order to strengthen communities now and into the future.
