The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference holds its track & field meet in Nevada today. Coach Derek Merk’s Greene County girls and Coach Chad Morton’s Greene County boys will be joined by the host Cubs, Gilbert, Roland-Story (Story City), PCM (Monroe), North Polk (Alleman), Saydel (Des Moines), and South Hamilton (Jewell).
The Greene County girls have the top performances among conference teams heading into today’s meet in the 800 meter medley relay, and two individual events. Sophomore Brianna Osterson leads in the long jump and 200 meter dash. Coach Merk reports a healthy squad heading into the final regular season meet of the season.
Coach Morton will be limiting junior Colby Kafer due to a muscle injury. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio the standout performer will either not compete at all or will be limited to the 4 x 100 meter relay. Kafer leads the HOIAC in the long jump. Junior Carter Morton leads conference high jumpers, and those are the only two events the Rams enter the meet with the top performances.
Starting time in Nevada is 4 p.m.
