A Wisconsin man tried to escape from the law enforcement center in Jefferson after he was arrested Tuesday morning.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says a deputy was notified about a 2015 Ford F-150 driven by 27-year-old Joseph Faber, who ran a stop sign in Ogden. At 11:35am a Greene County Deputy stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Highways 30 and 4.
Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio the deputy noticed signs of Faber being under the influence of drugs. The deputy also discovered the vehicle that Faber was driving was stolen from Story County. Williams says Faber was released from the Story County Jail earlier that morning and allegedly stole the jailer’s vehicle. Faber also refused to take a sobriety test, and was then arrested.
As Faber was waiting to be booked into the Greene County Jail, Williams says they saw him trying to escape through the drop-ceiling of the booking room on their security camera and they pulled him back down. Williams notes that Faber caused $3,000 damage to the ceiling.
Faber is charged with a Class C Felony for first degree theft, a Class D Felony for attempted escape from custody and serious misdemeanors for his first offense for an OWI and fourth degree criminal mischief. He remains at the Greene County Jail.
