Springbrook State Park is hosting several events this weekend as part of the state’s annual Camping Kickoff celebration.
“Year of the Volunteer” is the focus for 2019, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources Training Specialist Anne Riordan is channeling the message with an event called “Splash for Trash.” Riordan says kids and adults are invited to practice kayaking and help maintain the lake area, “We’ll do a little instruction, we’ll go out on the lake and pick up anything that might be in the lake that doesn’t belong there, and also do some walking around the lake and see if there’s anything that needs to be cleaned up there.”
The event will last from 2:30-5 p.m., and kayaks and life jackets will be provided. Riordan will also be hosting an evening hike followed by a campfire with treats this Friday from 7-10 p.m. at the campground gazebo. For questions on either of these events, contact Riordan at 641-295-6028.
