Spring is one of the busier times of the year for Iowa roads, as motorists travel alongside farmers during the planting season.

Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright says this can be a high-stress time for producers as they try to get their planting done in a short amount of time, so he cautions drivers to be mindful of farm equipment traveling on county and state highways, “They have good flashing lights, and people need to be aware that they’re going to be out there and be ready to slow down. Have some patience because you might have to get behind them until you can pass properly and safely.”

Arganbright adds, farmers should also make safety a number one priority and take precautions, like wearing a seatbelt, avoid having passengers, making sure all equipment is securely locked, and use safety lighting and markings.
