Eighth ranked Class 2A Gilbert was a 2-1 high school boys’ soccer winner on Thursday night in Grand Junction over Greene County, handing the Rams their first loss of the season after a 6-0 start to the campaign. The Rams, ranked sixth in 1A, led 1-0 early, and the match was tied 1-1 at the half. Senior Isaiah Losee put the Rams up 1-0 with a goal about seven minutes into the match. Gilbert countered with around 15 minutes to play in half number one. The deciding goal was scored with about 10 minutes left. Coach Behne said, “A tough call in the box turned into a PK (Penalty Kick) that Gilbert converted. We ended with a flurry and a few good chances in the final nine minutes, but couldn’t get it to land in the net. The boys will learn a lot from the loss and grow in the process.” The coach added he was proud of the boys. He felt everyone gave great effort and improved in the process.

The Gilbert girls are ranked fifth in 1A and they won 10-0 over the Rams, who fell to 2-5. Greene County has been shut out four times this season and is averaging less than one goal per match.
