While Panorama High School students will be performing their talents at an event next week, the ones receiving scores will be behind the curtain.
The annual Java Jazz talent show is the work of teacher Deb Arganbright’s communications class which is credited through DMACC (Des Moines Area Community College). Among other tests and assignments the students spend the semester planning this talent show, with roles such as producer, talent scout, and marketing. Senior and talent show co-producer Levi Richey shares how this real-life assignment has impacted him, “I enjoy this class a lot because you’re communicating and interacting with people. And you get to have some fun and feel like you’re an actual producer or marketing agent, or you can even be in the show and be like an act or a singer and it’s pretty fun.”
Senior Brooklyn Behrends serves on the show’s marketing team, for which they’ve created several social media pages to promote this show to students. She encourages everyone to attend, “I think it’s always nice for the community members to see just our talents and like more than just the sports side of everyone. So it kind of shows singers who might not be in choir but they do enjoy singing and that sort of thing.”
Panorama’s Java Jazz Show takes place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1st in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults.
