Greene County High School had two top 10 finishes on Thursday during day one of high school competition at the Drake Relays in Des Moines. Junior Carter Morton was sixth in the boys’ high jump at 6′ 5″, and sophomore Brianna Osterson was seventh in the long jump for girls at 17′ 3″.

Morton entered the competition with one of the five highest jumps this season at 6′ 8″. He was one of eight jumpers on Thursday to clear 6′ 5″, and only three cleared the next height, 6′ 7″.

Osterson entered 22nd and finished seventh, winning the first flight of the long jump and qualifying for the nine person finals with the sixth best effort in the preliminaries. The distance she jumped Thursday equals her career best.

Ram junior Tyler Miller was 26th among 27 in the boys’ shot put. He fouled twice and his only legal throw went 45′ 9-3/4″.

Others from the Raccoon Valley Radio area did well on Thursday. Panorama senior Lydia Knapp led area competitors with a third place finish in the girls’ discus throw at 135′ 1″. Panorama’s Gracen Welberg cleared 6′ 1″ in the high jump for boys and placed 19th. Bailey Beckman of Panorama was tenth in the girls’ long jump at 16′ 10-3’4″.

ADM’s Nate Mueller was 17th in the 3,200 meter run in 9:53.76.
