Law Enforcement in Dallas County has historically investigated cases involving violent crimes with the help of a unified taskforce, though recently the scope of the organization has expanded.
Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard says they’ve taken the group formerly known as the Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Taskforce and broadened it to include more than just those specific crimes. The coalition has also rebranded itself as the Dallas County Violent Crimes Taskforce. Leonard explains the shift in focus. “We’re seeing a trend here, we’re having a lot more violent crimes than just sexual assaults and domestic violence. So we’re just putting everything under one umbrella. And we’re going to start revisiting this more frequently, and spend more time taking care of the victims, going after the offenders as well.”
Dallas County Attorney Chuck Sinnard, who for several years had been an integral piece of the original taskforce, is helping Leonard head up the rebranded organization, along with representatives from Dallas County Crisis Intervention. The Violent Crimes Taskforce also consists of officials from each law enforcement agency in the County, who were personally recruited by Leonard and Sinnard.
