The new program is starting with the Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department.

All fifth and sixth graders are encouraged to learn the sport of tennis on Saturdays from April 27th through May 18th from 10 to 11am at Russell Park in Jefferson. Instructor Louk Boyd will lead the program at the tennis courts. Participants will learn about the sport through drills and games. JPRD Director Vicky Lautner says they have tennis rackets available for those who don’t own one to use for the program and she invites those interested to come and try it out.

“I think tennis is a lifetime sport. That’s something you can do anytime, anywhere, anyplace, it just takes another person or you can do couples. We do have a tennis (ball) machine. So we will have that available to them. I think they’re going to be set up pretty good to practice tennis.”

It costs $15 per person. Pre-registration is encouraged by either calling the Greene County Community Center at 515-386-3412 or stopping by to sign up.
