A first-ever event to start up a new scholarship opportunity for the Greene County School District proved to be a success.
The Raccoon Valley Powersports Mancave/Garage Tour raised $800 during their inaugural event with stops across Greene County. The fundraiser also included a breakfast that was served by Jefferson Hy-Vee and lunch provided by Tom and Gina Harrington. As part of the new venture, two individuals received scholarships to pursue careers in the automotive field. Connor Gibson and Brock Badger each received a $400 scholarship. Gibson is a 2018 Greene County High School graduate and is completing his freshman year at Iowa Central Community College in the automotive collision program. Badger will be graduating high school this spring and plans to attend Des Moines Area Community College in automotive technology.
Badger describes what inspired him to go into the automotive field as a career.
“I’ve always been interested in cars and racing. I’ve worked on cars my entire life. Just being able to fix something on a vehicle and then you feel that achievement afterwards, there’s nothing else that excites me more than that. With me racing it’s just something I enjoy to do. I just want to help people out and fix stuff that they need.”
Organizers thank everyone and their sponsors for their support this year. Next year’s event will take place on March 28, 2020.
