Coach Chad Morton and a small group of Greene County High School boys’ track & field athletes went to Huxley on Tuesday and competed in Class B (smaller class) at the Ballard Classic. The coach said, “We didn’t run many events, but did very well, and placed first in every event we competed in.”

Among the highlights were two school records for the seven years competing as Greene County. Junior Tyler Miller threw the shot 52′ 3″, putting him in contention for Drake Relays qualification. Junior Carter Morton ran the 110 meter high hurdles for the first time this season and won in a Greene County school record time of 15.52. Junior Colby Kafer also won the long jump at 20′ 6″ and the 100 meter dash in 11.52 seconds. Morton won the high jump at 6′ 4″, setting a meet record in Class B. Kafer and Morton were joined by juniors Tyler Teeples and Brent Riley in winning the 4 x 100 meter relay in :44.94.

Greene County sent its girls’ golfers to the Ames Country Club Tuesday for a triangular. Gilbert won with 181 and Roland-Story (Story City) had 183. The Rams checked in at 235. Ellie Madson shot 47 to lead Greene County with 53 by Mariah Block. Bailey Brown shot 67 and Alexis Miller had a 68. Britta Snyder of Gilbert, one of Iowa’s top female golfers, was medalist with 34 for nine holes.
