The City of Perry is continuing its series of projects to improve the Perry Municipal Airport, most recently by submitting a grant application to help pay for an overhaul of the fuel system.

Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says the current fuel tank at the airport is too small, so the plan is to modify it and add another. He says that will increase their overall fuel volume, which will save them money on transportation costs for the airport. The grant proposal was submitted to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Airport Improvement Program, which is funded in part by the Federal Aviation Administration. Peterson says the City is fairly confident their proposal will be accepted, given the need. “I know that the DOT and the FAA really like projects that have to do with economic development and increasing development and activity on airfields. So hopefully this application will be able to tell that message that we’re hindered a little bit by our fuel system and need that as one of the components to take us to that next level out at the airport.”

Peterson adds, once the funds are received, the City would be able to act quickly to construct the new fuel facility. He believes they could start and finish the project by this fall.
