A strong band of storms popped up quickly and left just as fast Wednesday afternoon, activating the Raccoon Valley Radio Severe Weather Action Team.
At 3:04 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern Guthrie County, northern Dallas, and southern Boone. Cities in the path of the storm, including Panora, Perry, Minburn, and Woodward, saw heavy rainfall and up to 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts. There were also reports of pea-sized hail near Minburn. The storm moved quickly, and by 3:45 p.m. the warning was allowed to expire, though a second warning that impacted Polk and Story counties continued until 4:30.
There were no reports of damage from the storm, though Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard reported areas of standing water on Highway 141, and there were other reports of pooling water in Perry resulting from the heavy rainfall. Eight members of the Severe Weather Action Team, as well as Sheriff Leonard, Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf, Weatherology meteorologists, and local residents participated in the coverage of the storm. Whenever severe weather affects the listening area, listen for live storm coverage on the Raccoon Valley Radio Network.
