The Greene County boys’ track & field team turned in its most impressive performance this season in winning the Ram Relays on Monday night at Linduska Field. Coach Chad Morton’s Rams scored 122 points to 107 for second place Boone. There were nine boys’ teams competing.
South Tama County (Tama) edged ADM for the girls’ crown 106-105. Greene County was fifth among eight teams with 65 points.
The only win for the girls from Greene County was from sophomore Brianna Osterson in the long jump at 16′ 11-1/2″ to win by 1/2 inch. The most impressive of the Rams’ second place performances came in the 4 x 100 meter relay in a season best time of 52.71 seconds with Melanie Doran, Maddie Sigler, Makala Kafer, and Osterson.
The boys from Greene County won five events with the 4 x 100 running a season best :44.64 with Tyler Teeples, Brent Riley, Carter Morton, and Colby Kafer. Teeples won the 100 meters in 11:94 seconds wile Kafer was first in the 200 in :23.47, Morton won the high jump at 6’1″, and the 4 x 200 was first in 1:35.45 with Teeples, Riley, Jaxon Warnke, and Kafer. The Rams also had six second place finishes.
Coach Morton said winning the meet was a great reward for how hard the boy have worked so far this year. “I couldn’t be happier for our boys! Everything just came together for us tonight. We had four PRs (personal records) and four season bests. This is a fun group of kids and a fun season so far!” The coach also thanked all the volunteers who helped and added the meet could not have been run without those volunteers.
