Perry Lutheran Homes is getting ready to host their fourth annual Meals from the Heartland, and they’re looking for a total of 280 volunteers to help this year.

PLH Director of Marketing Mollie Clark says their goal for this year is to pack 30,000 meals to be distributed internationally and domestically, bringing their four-year total to more than 100,000. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 1st at the Willis Avenue Campus from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Clark says the volunteers will work alongside the folks that call Perry Lutheran Homes “home.” “Our residents and tenents at both Spring Valley and Willis Campus, they really love getting in on the action. It’s a great time for them to really stay connected to the community and the people that come in and volunteer. It helps them live a meaningful life since they can still give back to others in maybe just a different way. And then they just get to have lots of fun with people of all ages and abilities, backgrounds, so it’s a really great day!”

Clark adds, the volunteers can be anyone age 5 to 105, though the younger participants will need to be accompanied by an adult. They will have seating available during the event if anyone needs it, and the shifts will be one hour. Clark says they already have more than 100 volunteers signed up, and the spots tend to fill up faster once the event gets closer, so anyone wanting to take part should sign up now.
