A special election is coming this summer for residents in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn School District, after the School Board ordered a vote on a $15.75 million bond referendum.
The general obligation bond would be used to build a new elementary building in Adel, which Superintendent Greg Dufoe says is the next step in dealing with the District’s rapid growth and potential overcrowding. He adds, this is something ADM has been working towards for some time, and the school had a lot of input on the project. “This was anticipated after an eight or nine-month facility master planning process that we underwent, with a committee comprised of teacher representatives from all four buildings, administrators, Board members, community leaders, and parents. And the recommendation to the Board was for the District to attempt to build a new elementary school that would house students in grades 2, 3, and 4. So that’s exactly the project that the Board called for the election.”
One thing that’s still unknown is the location of the potential school. Dufoe says the District will explore possibilities in the coming months, but he’s unsure if a decision will be made before the special election on June 25th. Also between now and then, the District will be hosting an assortment of public education meetings, and sending out informative flyers and direct mailers to the community.
