With a week to go for Iowa high school track & field performers to qualify for the April 25-27 Drake Relays in Des Moines, Greene County has one event in, with five other possibilities. Junior high jumper Carter Morton has exceeded the Drake Relays automatic qualifying standard of 6′ 6″ and is guaranteed to be a qualifier. Morton is tied for the third highest jump in the state at 6′ 8″, according to information on the quikstatsiowa.com website.

The Greene County boys have two other events that could qualify with strong performances in upcoming meets. Junior Colby Kafer ranks 37th in the long jump, according to QuikStats, at 20′ 11-1/4″, which ranks 37th. The top 24 in all field events qualify for Drake. Currently, 21′ 3″ sits in the 24th position. Ninety-six 4 x 100 meter relays make it to Drake and right now the Rams sit tied for 101st at :46.03.

The Greene County girls do not have any automatic qualifiers, but as of right now, the Rams have three events that are on the good side of qualifying. Sophomore Brianna Osterson sits 10th in the long jump at 17′ 3″. Sophomore Brooklyn Olson is 14th in the discus throw at 122′ 9″, and the 4 x 100 meter relay is 72nd at :53.36. The top 24 field event performances and the top 96 4 x 100 meter relay times qualify for the Drake Relays.

The cutoff for submitting performances is 11:59 p.m. Thursday, April 18.
