One of the largest Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant recipients this year still needs some help reaching their fundraising goal.
The Greene County Animal Shelter received a $67,000 grant from the non-profit gaming license holder of Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson. Animal Shelter Facilitator and Co-organizer Don Orris thanks GGCGC for the funds, but says more help is needed for the over $1.1 million project.
“We are very appreciative to them. We need all the help we can get and this will be a big shot in the arm to help us get along with the fund-driving. And we need people to realize that we need to do this within a year. If we can possibly get this accomplished, we want to accomplish it within a year. We want to get people out and excited about it. And we need small, medium and big donors. We need everyone’s help in supporting us.”
With the grant from Grow Greene County, the total amount raised is over $300,000. Proceeds from the Community Players of Greene County’s recent performances of “Death by Dessert” are still being finalized, and Orris adds that in September the proceeds from the Amazing Race for Charity will also be donated to their fundraising efforts. Orris notes there are sponsorship opportunities as well. The facility includes cat condos, dog kennels, a dog park, an isolation room, and other areas. The shelter will be located in the Greene County Development Corporation east business park, west of Highway 4 and south of American Athletic Incorporated/Spaulding.
To make a donation, checks can be made payable to the City of Jefferson, earmarked for the animal shelter, and dropped off at City Hall. To view a video of the facility and to learn more information about the project, click the links below.
