Over $15,000 was raised by Greene County Elementary and Middle School students during the Kids Heart Challenge.
KHC Coordinator and elementary school physical education teacher Lori Danner says second through sixth grade students raised a total of $15,809, which is one of the highest totals that’s ever been raised in over 30 years of doing the program.
In February, students asked community members, businesses and organizations to make donations to the American Heart Association. Along with fundraising, the program also involves the students learning about heart healthy physical activities and living a heart healthy lifestyle. Danner says having the opportunity to coordinate this program for 30 years has been a rewarding experience to share with everyone that’s been involved. She adds that the amount that was raised this year is especially emotional for her because it is the last time she will do it with the students since she will be retiring at the end of the school year.
All of the money raised goes to the American Heart Association.
