The Stuart City Council met in regular session Monday.

The meeting began with the Council approving selling the property at 308 North Harrison Street to the only bid that was submitted of $2,500 to Kristina and Josh Renslow. Next, the Council approved street cutting specifications, seeking asphalt quotes for Northwest 6th and Harrison streets, and to increase the sale price of rock to residents from $14 to $18 a scoop.

Public Works Director Jim Henderson asked for the Council’s approval to purchase a new operator interface for the wastewater plant. Henderson presented a proposal from Automatic Systems Co. for $49,740. He said the current interface is 10 years old and has given the City costly problems, some with $7,000 in damage, “It will just shut itself off. We don’t know it until we get there later that day or the next morning, we have no idea that it’s shut down. When that computer shuts down absolutely nothing runs, no pumps, no motors, nothing runs.”

The Council approved the purchase. They also approved the 2019 Stuart Fire Officers and a revised site plan to add a driveway at Karl Chevrolet. Chris Whitaker from Region XII Council of Governments also gave the Council an update on his working with Stuart Economic Development Director Kristen Renslow on the City’s comprehensive plan.
