It’s National Library Week and the Jefferson Library encourages everyone to check out what their local library has to offer.
Library Director Jane Millard also invites everyone to attend their open house today and enjoy free cookies and learn about the different services and programs the library has. This year’s initiative is “Libraries Transform” and she talks about how libraries transform local communities and makes them stronger.
“Libraries transform their communities because they offer access to all sorts of resources. And access equals opportunity. Everyone of all ages has the opportunity to access information and education at their local public library.”
Plus, Millard adds a roof replacement project will be starting today. Grell Roofing of Fort Dodge will be replacing the rubber membrane roof of the 1967 addition and connecting entryway of the building with a Duro-Last membrane. The roof was last replaced in 1997 and funding for the project will come from local option sales and services tax (LOSST) funds. The roof on the 1904 Carnegie building was replaced this past December. Millard notes the library will be open regular hours while the project is going on, but she encourages the public to park away from the roofing equipment.
