The Jefferson Police Department is investigating a high-speed chase incident that happened early Friday morning.
Police Chief Mark Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio an officer attempted to make a traffic stop at 2:18am at 220th and Elm streets. He says the vehicle failed to stop and headed west approaching speeds of 124-miles-per-hour when the vehicle turned south onto J Avenue. The officer was in pursuit when they encountered a train crossing and then the vehicle turned around and headed northbound on J Avenue and then turned west back onto 220th Street toward Scranton. The vehicle’s speed was over 100-miles-per-hour again on 220th Street when it turned onto Eaton Avenue into Scranton before turning right onto 9th Street when the officer lost sight of the vehicle.
Clouse says they are investigating the incident and the suspect is facing a number of charges including eluding, driving while barred and several traffic citations. Clouse adds the suspect also has several warrants out for his arrest in surrounding counties including Greene, Guthrie and Carroll.
