The Greene County High School soccer teams were both victorious on Thursday on the artificial surface at Carroll Stadium vs. the Carroll High Tigers. Coach Marilyn Tasler’s team evened its record at 1-1 with a 2-1 victory, and Coach Carl Behne’s boys’ squad won 8-1, improving to 2-0 and scoring eight goals for the second straight match.
Coach Tasler reports juniors Kirsten Lamoureux and Bailey Cunningham scored goals for the Rams. The Greene County defense was stout, allowing just the one goal. The Rams bounced back from a 4-0 season opening loss in Stuart against West Central Valley. Greene County opens its home season today in Grand Junction vs. Perry. The varsity match starts at 4:30 p.m.
The Greene County boys led 4-1 at halftime at Carroll and all 18 players that suited for the Rams got some minutes. Coach Behne said his team played very well, although he thought they started a little flat compared to the 8-3 season opening win on Tuesday at Humboldt. “I was very proud of how the boys played. The game was very physical and a number of the boys will be ready for a restful weekend.”
Junior Gutierrez scored three goals and three assists for nine points. Luis Velazco added three goals and an assist for a seven point night. Isaiah Losee had one goal, as did Yunior Carballo. Alex Roberts recorded one assist. Ram goalkeeper Cale Fisher played all 80 minutes and had five saves.
