This coming week is National Library Week, and the Perry Public Library is once again getting in on the festivities.
Library Director Mary Murphy invites the public to come see what the library has to offer, which during the week includes fresh-baked cookies provided by the Friends of the Library. Murphy adds, one popular way the Perry Library shows its appreciation for patrons during the week is giving them a way to chip away at their fines. “We always set aside this week to kind of highlight and say ‘thank you’ to our patrons. If you have fines, we have the ‘Food for Fines’ (program). You can bring in a canned good, and this helps (the) local food pantry also. So it’s a win-win for everybody! They (patrons) get fines reduced, the food pantry gets more food.”
Murphy adds, the theme for the week is “Libraries = Strong Communities,” which she emphasizes is what public libraries live for: serving the community. To learn more about National Library Week, click the link below to listen to the Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program with Murphy.
