The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.
During the City Administrator’s report, Sven Peterson gave updates on several topics, including: hiring Mike Fastenau as Community and Development Director and Scott Kopecky as Building Official; construction on 16th Street were the frost heave damaged the road, and the City is taking the opportunity to install new sub drains and intakes to prevent future issues; and a sewer lining project on 30th Street and other locations with Accujet.
After that, the Council held a public hearing regarding the voluntary annexation of land adjacent to the City. The property is owned by Joyce VanKirk, and it will be used for the new animal shelter. No one spoke against the annexation, so following the hearing the Council approved it. Next, they approved awarding the contract for demolition of the old hangar at the Perry Municipal Airport to Jensen Builders. The contractor is the same one that will be building the new hanger, and they had the low bid of $38,175.
Other items approved included: reappointing three individuals to boards and commissions, as well as reappointing Matt McDevitt as the City’s representative on the Dallas County Local Housing Trust Fund; grant opportunities through the Iowa Community Assurance Pool (ICAP) for the Perry Police Department for policy updates and training; and giving permanent permission to the Art on the Prairie Committee to use City property during the Fiber Art Fair.
