Panorama and surrounding students will be offered a free meal five days a week this summer through a new offering from the school district.

The Panorama School District will be serving free lunches to any kid under 18 years of age in the communities of Panora, Bagley, Jamaica, Yale, and Linden, as well as adults for $3.75. These meals will be free to students from other districts as well.

Superintendent Shawn Holloway says the district wants to ensure free and reduced meal students have the opportunity to receive nutritious meals in the summer, “We thought it was really important to be self sufficient, not relying on volunteers. Like any volunteers we get are great and awesome, but at the end of the day we wanted as a school district to be able to be sustainable, so not just trying to do this for one summer but for the foreseeable future.”

The district will be sending more details on where meals will be served to families this spring, and will possibly formulate a survey gauging their interest.
