The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help from the public for an investigation of alleged animal cruelty.
Chief Deputy Adam Infante reports that on March 16th, deputies were aiding the sandbagging efforts to prevent flooding in Dawson. As residents and volunteers were working, they noticed a pair of dogs floating in the Raccoon River. The animals were both deceased when discovered, and it was clear it was not due to natural causes. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the incident by going door to door and asking locals if they recognized either dog. No one they talked to recognized the animals, and there were no reports of anyone missing a pair of dogs. As such, Infante doesn’t believe the crime occurred in Dallas County, but he can’t confirm that at this time.
In an attempt to expand the investigation, the Sheriff’s Office is enlisting the public’s help by sharing photos of the dogs from the shoulders-down. Infante says they hope people will recognize the coloration and be able to provide more information, though he didn’t want to post anything more due to the graphic nature of the state in which the dogs were found. Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 515-993-4567. The pictures being used to help identify the dogs can be found below.
