The ACGC boys track and field team will kick off their outdoor schedule tonight at Audubon. The team will be without their standout seniors as they are currently on their annual senior trip. However, the underclassmen will have a prime opportunity to step up on the young season.
Head coach Cody Matthewson points out one freshman in particular that could break through this season for the Chargers. “If I had to say a dark horse for a younger kid coming up, I’d probably have to go with Cayden Jensen. He can do it all honestly. He can hurdle, long jump, (and) high jump. He can run the 100, 200, and 400. He’s going to find success everywhere. He may not have a coming out party this year but I promise you in the next few years you’re going to have a very special kid and a very talented kid who’s going to be competing for a spot on the podium in different events as his career continues.”
Matthewson also mentioned Charlie Crawford and Jacob Fox as freshman that will make their mark this year for the gold and black. The field at Audubon tonight features the Chargers, host Wheelers, and several other schools. Those schools include: AHSTW, Ar-We-Va, Charter Oak Ute, East Mills, Exira-EHK, Griswold, Missouri Valley, Riverside, Treynor, Tri-Center, Underwood, and Woodbine. The girls meet at Greene County initially scheduled for yesterday has been postponed to today due to weather. Both meets kick off around 4:30 this afternoon from Audubon and Jefferson respectively.
