The Greene County boys’ track & field team sent a few athletes to Lamoni yesterday to compete in the 2019 Jenner Invitational on the Graceland University campus inside the Closson Center.
Junior Colby Kafer had a trio of top five finishes to lead the Rams. He was second in the long jump at 20′ 5″, the best indoor leap of his career, in a field of 26 long jumpers. Kafer was third in the 200 meter dash in a field of 55 with a clocking of 24.42 seconds, and he finished fourth among 55 runners in the 55 meter dash in 6.94 seconds.
The Rams had two other top five finishes. Freshman Jackson Morton was fifth in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.18 seconds, and the distance medley relay was fifth in 4:21.45. Sophomore Jaxon Warnke was eighth in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.67 seconds.
Junior Carter Morton, who has already cleared 6′ 7″ in the high jump and qualified for next month’s Drake Relays, did not compete.
The Greene County girls and boys are scheduled to host their Early Bird Coed Meet this Monday at Linduska Field in Jefferson to begin the outdoor season.
