Don’t forget, the 2019 All-State Individual Speech Festival is this Monday, and two Perry students will be performing.
Rylynn Gilmore will be performing her poetry piece, titled “Desks are Not Bulletproof,” while Brianna Fields will present her literary program, titled “Dirty Dishes.” Gilmore is making her second straight appearance at the festival for poetry, having been selected last year for her piece, titled “Awakening.” She received three “I” ratings at the state competition. Meanwhile, Fields is making her first trip to All-State. She got there the hard way by earning two “I” ratings and a “II,” but received a judge’s recommendation and was selected for the honor.
The All-State Festival will be held at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. The opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30 a.m. Monday in the McCleod Center. Fields will be performing at Center 11, the Commons Ballroom, in the 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. session. Gilmore will be in the 3-4 p.m. session at Center 14, Room 108 in the Communication Arts Center. The festival is open to the public, and there is an $8 entry fee which will give you access to every event throughout the day. To view the full All-State schedule, click the link below.
