The ACGC girls track and field team was able to give a preview of what’s to come for the year at the Iowa State High School Girls Classic earlier this week. The Chargers will be out in full force on Monday when they head north to Jefferson for the first outdoor meet of the season in the Greene County Invitational.

Head coach Colin Shawgo tells Racoon Valley Radio that this year’s group is about 25 in number. That number is smaller than last year but larger than the inaugural year. He says it will be difficult initially to replace the talented senior class from 2018, but feels the underclassmen, particularly the sophomore class, will help fill the gaps in 2019.

Shawgo explains how the underclassmen will really have a chance to step up in Jefferson. “Greene County should be a really good barometer of where we’re at. We’re going to be missing all of our seniors because they’re going to be on the senior trip. But it should still be a good meet. It will be good for the young ones to get a lot of events in.”

The field for Greene County includes athletes from the Chargers and Rams, as well as Gilbert, Manson Northwest Webster, North Polk, Ogden, South Hamilton, and Southeast Valley. First events begin around 4:30pm from Jefferson.
