Power has been restored to all four of the wells in Adel, though a water watch remains in effect for the City.
City staff manually monitored the water system since electricity was lost at three of the wells yesterday, and they report it has been working as designed throughout today. MidAmerican Energy assisted the City in assessing the damage to the well sites using a drone. It was then determined that the flood waters were not the direct cause of the power outage. Instead, it is believed a bird or animal near the top of a pole interrupted the power source. Electricity to the wells was restored once it was determined no significant damage had occurred.
The City says while the well fields are still flooded and inaccessible for at least another week, staff believes the power source and water system are stable to provide water to citizens. With that in mind, the water warning placed into effect yesterday has been downgraded to a water watch. To learn what’s involved with a water watch, click the link below. The watch will remain in effect until the flood waters recede and officials are able to inspect all aspects of the wells.
