After a strong inaugural season for its girls soccer program, Panorama will look for even more success in year two. The Lady Panthers went 12-5 in their first campaign before falling to Gilbert in a regional semifinal. Six of those victories were shut outs, while only being victims of shut outs twice.
The team returns plenty of firepower led by sophomore twins Audrey and Paige Cmelik, both of whom were all-region selections as freshmen. Audrey’s 25 goals last year ranked sixth best in the state, while Paige’s 20 made the duo two of just 14 players in Class 1A to top the 20 goal mark. Sophomore Ella Waddle was third on the team with 14 goals, giving the team a powerful young offensive attack that averaged 4.7 goals per game. Senior Ashley Clark returns in net after posting an 85.1 percent save percentage in 2018.
There’s plenty of reason for optimism for the Lady Panthers, who will open their season at home April 1 against Des Moines Hoover.
