Nearly two months after the Mayor of Jamaica’s arrest and resignation, the Jamaica City Council is moving forward with a new mayor and council member appointed.

Former mayor pro-tem Tim McDermott tells Racoon Valley Radio that at the City Council’s meeting on March 11th, he was appointed to serve as Jamaica’s official mayor through the rest of former mayor LaDonna Kennedy’s term, which will be this November. Randy Perkins was then appointed at as mayor pro-tem, and Jennifer Meinecke was appointed to fill the Council vacancy. With this action the Council narrowly avoided having to hold a special election, as a town is forced to have one if no one is appointed within 60 days of an elected person’s resignation. Kennedy submitted her resignation shortly after she and her husband Randy were arrested on January 16th on felony drug charges after sheriff’s deputies found a marijuana growing operation in their home.
