The widespread flooding throughout Iowa has prompted Governor Kim Reynolds to issue a disaster proclamation for much of the state, including Adair, Dallas, and Guthrie counties.
These counties are now eligible to utilize state resources to respond to and recover from the damages inflicted. It also activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program for qualifying residents and the Disaster Case Management Program. The former program provides up to $5,000 for households with incomes up to 200% of the federal poverty level, or a maximum annual income of $41,560 for a family of three. Grants can be awarded for home or car repairs, replacement of clothing or food, and temporary housing expenses. The deadline to apply is April 29th.
The latter program helps address serious needs from disaster-related hardship, injury, or adverse condition. Disaster case workers work with clients to create a recovery plan and provide help in obtaining services and resources. There are no income guidelines for this program, and it closes within 180 days of the proclamation. A total of 36 counties have been included in the Governor’s disaster proclamation. Residents in those counties are also asked to report damage to aid local and state officials in their assessments.
