Yesterday was opening day for boys soccer in Iowa. Though it is spring break this week, the West Central Valley Wildcats are inching closer to the start of competitive play in 2019. The Wildcats are coming off a 6-9 campaign in 2018.

The majority of the offense will return for the Wildcats. Junior Weston Pote scored 17 of the Wildcats’ 37 goals and totaled 38 of the team’s 97 points. Classmate Ismael Leyva led the Wildcats in assists and was second in total points with six and fourteen respectively. There will be a new netminder though for the purple and white. Outgoing senior Ethan Pote tallied 33 goals and allowed 140 saves in 2018. Joey Speichinger is expected to get the start for the opener.

Other key returners for the Wildcats include senior Cole Sackett and sophomores Kiefer Wallace and Drew Belden. The team opens up competitive play at Ballard on Friday, March 29th in Huxley.
