ACGC first year head boys track and field coach Cody Matthewson kept the goal setting non-specific for the squad in 2019. Above all he’s simply hoping that his team competes whenever they hit the course this year.Matthewson further explains what he hopes to see out of the boys team out of the gate.
“Right now we’re kind of going in trying to figure out who’s going to fit best. We have a lot of guys with a lot of similar qualities and a lot of similar speed and a lot of similar potential. So it’s going to create a lot of competition and that’s my main goal. Compete every single day with these kids and get them to compete against each other. May the best man win. At the end of the day we’ve only got so many events and only so many kids can compete. Luckily everyone’s going to get that opportunity to compete. So we’re going to continue to build off that. I don’t have a personal goal on what we’re trying to do from a team standpoint. I think the kids can kind of take care of themselves with that. Compete is our main goal every single day.”
Senior long distance runners Noah Nelsen and Clay Billheimer will lead a younger group for ACGC. The Chargers will open up competition at the annual Buena Vista Indoor meet in Storm Lake on Friday, March 15th.
