The West Central Valley School Board held a special meeting Wednesday night.

The purpose of the meeting was to amend the current school year calendar to make up for days lost due to weather. Superintendent Lance Ridgely said the district has missed seven school days and with late starts and early outs they have lost 55 instructional hours. After receiving feedback from the Board, staff, and parents, Ridgely proposed that the students now attend school on April 19th and May 28-30th, and have full days of school on April 3rd and 17th and May 8th instead of early outs. This would recover four contract days and 35 of the 55 hours lost.

Students would then have their last day of school on May 30th, excluding seniors, and teachers would work on May 31st and June 3rd and 4th to complete their contractual time. Future lost days due to the weather would be added to the end of the school year. The district is scheduled to have their spring break next week, and Ridgely says after sending a survey to staff, 29 of the 82 that responded indicated they had break plans. To which Ridgely concluded it wouldn’t be feasible to try to use spring break days. The Board approved the proposed calendar changes.
