Two Guthrie County nurses are being recognized as part of the 2019 “100 Great Iowa Nurses.”

Guthrie County Hospital Surgical Services Manager Doris Terwilliger and Cardiac Rehabilitation and Diabetes Education Manager Christine Drake were nominated by patients, coworkers, friends, and family members to be honored for their courage, competence, and commitment to patients and the nursing profession.

Terwilliger shares what she enjoys about her job, “Well, I’ve got a great team to work with, my girls are all well trained, they’re very dependable. Like I said, we work great as a team and probably the best thing is taking care of people in our community.”

Drake explains the connection she forms with cardiac patients, “Well, I actually enjoy all my patients, I get to meet a wide variety of people who have had a lot of experiences in their life. But one of the most rewarding things is maybe watching somebody come in who’s had bypass surgery or valve replacement or a major heart attack, and they’re scared and they don’t feel good. And by the time they’re done they’re happier, they’re healthier, they feel great and they’re very thankful for their experiences here. But really I just enjoy all the patients that we get the chance to meet with and help along the way.”

Drake and Terwilliger will be honored at an award ceremony on May 5th in Des Moines.
