Jefferson Matters: Main Street recently held their Volunteer Appreciation Party to honor all of the volunteers in the organization.

A highlight of the night was recognizing each of the five committee’s top volunteer as well as the 2018 Leadership Award, which went to Deb McGinn. She is the chair of the Tower View Team, serves on the JMMS Board of Directors and the promotions committee. Some of the projects she’s led and been involved with include: public art with the rooftop art initiative, Ring Out for Art sculptures, alleyway projects, business promotional videos, updating the Jefferson, IA smartphone app, and helping with last year’s HomeTown Teams traveling exhibit with the Smithsonian Institute. McGinn describes her reaction when she found out she was the 2018 recipient of the Leadership Award.

“Well I was very surprised. I’ve been with (Jefferson Matters) Main Street for probably what six years now. And it’s just been a lot of fun and I don’t call it work. I just think that I’ve just had a really good time doing what I’m doing for Main Street and for Jefferson.”

McGinn will also be recognized at the Main Street Iowa Awards on March 8th in Des Moines.

Other volunteers that were recognized from the other committees included Sandra Drewry with Design, Diane Piepel with Promotions, Michele Hardin with Organization, Bonnie Silbaugh with Economic Vitality and Marc McGinn with Tower View Team.
